Low Noise Amplifier
As the LNA is the first gain stage in the receiver chain its noise figure (NF) dominates the amount of noise present in the receiver and dictates the receiver sensitivity.
There are other parameters that impact the performance of the LNA and hence the performance of the receiver in general.
- Parameters such as the second and third order intercept points, input and output impedances, and stability are also very important and indirectly influence noise figure.
- A good input impedance match can be achieved through the design of input matching networks. However, these add a significant amount of resistive loss to the LNA and contribute directly to the noise figure.
Integrated modules overcome this constraint by providing more flexibility when matching the output/input impedances at the Limiter to LNA interface. Teledyne Lincoln Microwave is able to demonstrate tangible improvement in noise figure from integrated RF front end assemblies as opposed to receivers based on discrete components.
